5 Reasons to Fall in Love with Greenhouse Grown Produce

With nearly 11 years of working in the fresh produce industry – I have a keen understanding of various farming practices, growing regions, and specific brands of the produce department. Greenhouse farming is the ultimate in sustainability. It’s a category of produce that I always encourage my family, friends & followers of The Produce Mom to seek out. NatureFresh™ Farms grows bell peppers, tomatoes & cucumbers in an environmentally responsible way. I have a true sense of security and consistency when I purchase NatureFresh produce – I know it’s been grown safely, with a mindful use of natural resources, and the flavor is always on point.

Food Safety

Food Safety is the top priority at NatureFresh Farms – employees are fully scrubbed up every time they enter the greenhouse. It’s also important to note that produce can be traced not only to the specific greenhouse in which it was grown, but also the exact row and even the exact vine! Furthermore, robots move the produce from the greenhouse to the packing house, which minimizes handling and food safety risks.

Water Savvy

There is no water waste at NatureFresh Farms. Greenhouse growing is an enclosed and controlled environment where a drip irrigation system feeds the plants nutrient water. 100% of the water that isn’t absorbed by the plant is captured in the gutter systems at the greenhouse, sterilized and recycled back into the irrigation system. Greenhouse farming is the ultimate in natural resource conservation.

Clean Energy

Conservation of natural resources is a top priority for NatureFresh Farms. The greenhouses are heated with recycled & reclaimed wood. The boiler room at NatureFresh Farms burns wood and produces energy that is used to filter the recycled water, warm up the greenhouse when the exterior temperature falls, and pulls up shades, opens windows and runs fans if the greenhouse temperature gets too hot.

Bees & Bugs

Just like nature intended – bumble bees pollinate all of the plants at NatureFresh Farms. And the Integrated Pest Management System at NatureFresh means minimal, if any, use of pesticide spray. The farmers at NatureFresh invest in predator bugs like Lady Bugs to eat the bad bugs like Aphids that attack plants.

Flavor

Despite the impressive practices on the farm, the number 1 reason I love greenhouse grown produce from NatureFresh Farms is the flavor. Your tomatoes, bell peppers and cucumbers are always in season at NatureFresh. The controlled environment allows NatureFresh to grow a very consistent product. When I see the NatureFresh logo, I know it’s going to have maximum fresh-off-the-vine flavor!
