We are currently seeking an applicant to join our team and fill a full-time position as an Assistant Warehouse Manager at our Distribution Center in Leamington, ON.

The Assistant Warehouse Manager assists the Warehouse operations Manager by overseeing daily warehouse operations across the Distribution Center, specifically in Production and Shipping/Receiving. They ensure food safety, proper packaging, shipping/receiving, labour and training requirements are met. They work with management to resolve daily operational issues, improve employee training and productivity.
Job Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Works on short-term and long-term operational goals within the Production and Shipping/Receiving departments as determined by the Warehouse Manager, including but not limited to the following areas:
- Cost savings or efficiency strategies
- Warehouse maintenance/improvement
- Internal company communication
- General administration
- Designs, updates and reviews operational reports, metrics and KPI’s to assist the WH Manager with analyzing/tracking how well departmental objectives are being met within Production and Shipping/Receiving departments.
- Ensures timely communication and positive working relationships within the DC as well as Sales, Greenhouse, Maintenance, Purchasing, etc. on a daily basis. Works on improving overall communications.
- Supports Production Manager:
- Explain proper packing processes to employees.
- Watch packing lines and operations flow to ensure the warehouse teams are following schedules and meeting pack specifications.
- Ensures correct containers, labels, stickers, weights, product, etc. are always being used.
- Ensure agreed improvements in production techniques are implemented.
- Attentive to the level of quality of packing to ensure they meet company and customer standards.
- Monitors the product realization process to ensure effectiveness and efficiency.
- Works directly with managers to resolve issues, helps provide resources or ensure all agreed processes are fully implemented. Holds short meetings as needed to discuss and address any concerns or to provide updates.
- Regularly updates the WH Manager on manpower needs, schedule adjustments, progress, breakdowns, and/or serious operational issues.
- Must stay in contact with WH Manager on a regular basis in order for Sales to have an understanding of quantity and rate of completion.
- Place work orders as needed and communicate maintenance/purchasing needs with WH Manager.
- Assists the WH Manager with tracking budget.
- Works within the established company and governmental Occupational Health and Safety and Food Safety policies and regulations.
- Works collaboratively with HR, Compliance, IT and Finance to ensure consistency in application of policies and procedures, etc. Investigates any incidents or accidents and submit findings to WH Manager. Implements agreed corrective action(s) with management.
- With the assistance of WH Manager and HR, issue verbal and written warnings, as necessary. Coaching for improvement is essential to improve quality and behavioural deficiencies.
- Assist in new hire training, 90-day probation and annual performance reviews. Provides feedback to employees.
- Under the guidance of WH Manager and HR, participate interviews and hiring process of advanced positions as needed.
- Backup to Production and Shipping/Receiving management & WH Manager during absences or vacations.
- Other duties as assigned
Job Requirements:
- Some supervisory experience working in warehouse or produce managing staff, operations, etc. is preferred.
- Post-secondary experience in Management, Supply Chain Management, Transportation, Business, is preferred but not a requirement.
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office including good Excel skills.
- Very high degree of confidentiality and integrity required regarding all aspect of the business.
- Ability to gain trust and maintain respectful relationships with employees at all levels and across all departments is critical.
- Strong troubleshooting skills to identify and resolve complex problems with limited information and changing conditions.
- Critical thinking and ability to make decisions in a timely manner; good judgement and fairness are key.
- Effectively prioritizes work.
- Excellent attention to detail and ability to follow directions.
- Comfortable with working in a fast-pace environment and with time sensitive deadlines.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Commitment to continuous learning.
- A valid driver’s license and use of personal vehicle are required as needed.
- Spanish is a definite asset.
Workplace Conditions:
- Fast paced warehouse environment where temperatures vary from cooler to temperature-controlled areas.
- Working with a wide array of people/cultures in a team setting. These include offshore workers, locals, contractors, vendors, Management, Sales, Maintenance, Purchasing, HR, Compliance, IT etc.
- Works Monday-Saturday and holidays as needed, non-standard work hours. Flexibility with work schedule is required.
