Eat for the Future

An aerial view of the greenhouseAt Nature Fresh Farms we are always thinking about the future and how we can help to make it more sustainable, healthy, and clean through our food choices. It isn’t just about your health but about the health of planet Earth too. How you eat and what you eat can affect both in many ways. Of course, it’s important to not only eat well for your own longevity, but to also consider the impact the food you buy has on our environment. When thinking about eating for the future, if possible, try to invest in emerging trends such as sustainability, veggie-rich diets, limiting food waste, and supporting brands that are environmentally friendly.

Eat Sustainably

Planning your meals around produce not only benefits you but the Earth as well. Consuming too much meat affects the environment as the livestock industry emits nearly 15% of all man-made greenhouse gas emissions. So, produce is pivotal if you’re trying to eat for the future and when you purchase from Nature Fresh Farms you can rest assured that you’re eating some of the most sustainable produce on the planet. We recycle 100% of our nutrient water, grow in medium that is not dirt, and use bumble bees to pollinate our flowers.

Limit Food Waste

Limiting food waste starts in your own kitchen. Try to repurpose leftovers into new and exciting dishes. Boil up veggie stocks and/or meat bones in water to create a beautiful broth. Can, pickle, cure, or freeze veggies to make them last longer. Add citrus and cucumber peels to your water for a refreshing twist. Something to keep in mind is that discarded food rots in landfills where it produces methane gas which contributes to climate change.

Research has shown that those who eat a diet rich in vegetables live longer than those who don’t. We understand that it can be difficult to suddenly eat a veggie-rich diet when you’re not used to doing so but making small changes over time will help your long-term goals of introducing healthier foods to your lifestyle. Add cucumbers to your water; swap chocolate bars for snacking tomatoes and eat a green salad 2-3 times a week. Our organic produce is the best you can buy and whether it’s the burst of our tomatoes, the crunch of our cucumbers, or the sweetness of our peppers, you’ll find yourself wanting more.

Buy from Brands that Care for the Environment

Here at Nature Fresh Farms, we utilize indoor agriculture such as greenhouses that require much less space, water, and even soil. Plus, we make an environmental difference by growing things differently. Let us count the ways:

  • Plants are grown in coconut husks.
  • Water is recirculated in a closed-loop system
  • Clean waste wood is burned to create energy
  • Good bugs are used to reduce pesticides
  • Energy screens keep our heating system efficient
  • Less food miles means a smaller carbon footprint

As we close out the year, we want to emphasize to you, our customers, that we are a forward-thinking company with a desire to improve the future through our initiatives and our food. We use innovative technology to provide the highest quality vegetables and produce and our organic growing environment ensures our tomatoes, peppers, and cucumbers are free of synthetic chemicals.
