“I’ve worked at Nature Fresh Farms for 13 years give or take – it has been a great place to grow my skills and meet new people.”
Born in Mexico, Johnny H. moved to Canada with his family at a young age. When Johnny was still young, his father had a stroke, so Johnny started working when he was 13 to help support his family. For the last 13 years of his life, he has worked as a member of the Nature Fresh Farms team, and his current role is with our Energy department!
The best part about his current role with our Energy team is all the hands-on work that Johnny gets to perform: “I love operating different types of equipment and driving trucks – and that’s what I get to do all day as part of my job here. I’ve had to learn how to operate and maintain everything from excavators to a pay loader to dump trucks, all to help us keep our greenhouses powered.”
Family is incredibly important to Johnny: “I actually met my wife while working here, and I’m looking forward to soon becoming a father of 2. The most important thing people should know about me is that I put being a husband and father first, alongside my faith. Becoming a Christian was one of the best decisions I ever made.”
Johnny spends a lot of his free time with family and friends – he enjoys target shooting, going on road trips, and visiting water parks in the summer months. This past summer, Johnny went on a 20-hour road trip to a cabin in northern Ontario!
In the fall, we turn on our biomass boilers – which burn clean waste wood – to heat our greenhouses. It is Johnny’s responsibility to ensure our wood yard is full of fuel to keep our boilers running all the way through until spring. It’s also Johnny’s responsibility to keep the machinery he operates well maintained and in good condition. Johnny is one of our #GrowToPeople!
