It’s official- week one of the Green in the City Tour has been completed! Despite my initial nervousness, I feel like it was very successful. Of course there were a few hiccups along the way, but they were all minor and we were able to work past them and have a great time.
One of my favorite parts about talking to people is seeing their initial reaction to the Greenhouse Education Center. You can see on most people’s faces their curiosity toward the plants and it has been really cool for me to be able to share with them what we are doing there and how we grow at NatureFresh.
There are so many different aspects of the trailer that I can share with people, it is hard to pick where to start, or to know what will interest customers the most. Some people are really interested in the sustainability aspects of the trailer, or maybe they are interested in IPM, and others really like the fact that we are a local, family owned company.
I have really enjoyed talking to people about the GEC and hearing how fascinated customers were with the trailer. I was asked many times how we get our bell peppers so big and the plants so tall; or how we get our tomatoes on the vine or cherry tomatoes to look so tasty. My response to them is that we take really good care of our plants. We know what nutrients they need, how much water, and sunlight they need, and we don’t have to pick our tomatoes when they are still green. We can grow and provide greenhouse produce of exceptional quality. This really impresses people and they seem to like knowing that they can buy a high quality product in the store.
I have learned so much in just one week on tour, and I know I will learn even more as the summer continues. I hope you will continue to follow me this summer as I continue on the #GreenInTheCity Tour!
