Eating Healthy 101
Healthy Eating = Smart Eating
Do I or don’t I? That can be the toughest decision when reaching for that cupcake, mom’s double chocolate chip cookies, or Ben & Jerry’s Cherry Garcia ice cream. We get it. It’s tough to always take the healthier route. The first step is a big one and that is to include more fresh fruit and vegetables, and we want to help you do it.
In fact, we help you each and every day in our greenhouses in Leamington, ON and Delta, OH. How you might ask? It all starts with how we grow premium greenhouse vegetables. Flavor is the key to great tasting vegetables and we have a direct impact on how they taste.
Since we are the grower and hand pick our entire crop ourselves, we leave our product on the vine longer than most to ensure we let the plants work their magic.
Vine ripened greenhouse grown vegetables are the most consistently flavorful vegetables there are. If our natural, raw food tastes great on its own, why would we drown it in sauces and dressings? Raw cut vegetables are the new snack. Try it, you’ll love it!
Be aware of what you are eating and make a conscious decision of what ingredients you are using in your recipes. You don’t need to be the world’s greatest chef to make amazing, healthy meals. All it takes is utilizing fresh, unprocessed ingredients that create simple taste experiences; the results will surprise you.
Making small changes over time will help your long-term goals of introducing healthy food to your active lifestyle. Swap water for juice; snacking tomatoes for chocolate bars, and eat a green salad 2-3 times a week. Every. Little. Bit. Counts.
Healthy eating is not just about eating an apple a day. It is so much more than that; it is a well balanced diet, proper amount of exercise, and keeping your body hydrated. It’s not only about drinking water it’s about choosing hydrating foods such as cucumbers that have water content of over 90%. While cucumbers are great in a Mojito, they are even better as a snack on their own.

We take it up a notch to push the sensory boundaries of pairing items together that give the perfect balance of sweetness and acidity. Mixing and matching your greens, reds, and oranges is just part of what you can do to introduce new flavors. Steam vs boil but raw is always better. All simple ideas on Eating Healthy 101.
