Each week we the Green House Education team travels with a different specialist from NatureFresh farms. The purpose is to give us the team a chance to learn more about that person’s specialty as well as them interacting with the people they grow produce for. This week we were fortunate to have Mike, a grower of bell peppers on the road with us. Throughout the week, as questions arose from those that we interacted with during the #GreenInTheCity Tour, he was there to help answer specifics that he works with every day. This gave the team a chance to ask him questions and have teaching moments as well.
The agricultural field is one of the leading industries worldwide, especially as the population increases, more food must be produced. That is where growers like Mike, and team members such as Molly, Marcos, Jacy, Adam, and I come in as well. We are the future of the industry, and with the help of technology and new growing methods, there are careers to match everyone’s background and interest. From growing bell peppers every day, scouting plants for insects, packing tomatoes to go to retail markets or traveling with the Greenhouse Education Center, the possibilities are endless. At NatureFresh Farms, we have a YouTube channel that has highlight videos of our Grow-To-People or #G2P, and the methods we utilize in the greenhouse and technology that sets us apart from other industries. We are prepared for the future of #Fresh as the modern consumer evolves to be even more aware of sourcing locally and eating nutritiously.
The tour this summer gives NatureFresh a way to hear your voice as you decide what your family eats. It also gives us a chance to interact with students around the USA and Canada as we show them a potential career path and way towards a healthier food system.
